W train makes its triumphant return on November 6

At first it will between Whitehall Street and 57th Street

We’ve been eagerly awaiting the W train’s return for quite some time, and now we have a date. The W train will make its grand return November 6, NY1 has confirmed with the MTA. As service gets underway, the train will run between 57th Street and Whitehall Street in Lower Manhattan.

The return of the train also indicates that the MTA is now in the final stages of testing on the Second Avenue Subway. The W train, which was discontinued in 2010, was brought back to replace the Q once it gets rerouted along the Second Avenue Subway line. Despite numerous delays, so far that route is still scheduled to open by the end of the year.

A specific service plan for the W hasn’t been released yet, but eventually (once the Q gets properly underway on its new route) the train will travel between Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard and Whitehall Street.
