Fanciful duplex in Nolita's former NYPD headquarters sells for $2.91M

Designer Gemma Kahng has owned the apartment since 1993

Notable 1990s fashion designer Gemma Kahng, who once dressed the likes of Madonna and Sharon Stone, has parted ways with the duplex she’s owned within the former NYPD headquarters building since the early ’90s, reports the Observer. After spending close to a year on the market, the 1,400-square-foot co-op has sold for $2.91 million, which is a slight chop from its original ask of $3.2 million.

Among the details worth mentioning are the home's 16-foot foyer ceilings, ornate upper banister, coved ceilings, a 13-foot long floor-to-ceiling closet, and a modern kitchen. One of the two-and-a-half bathrooms has been decked out in top-to-bottom blue, green, and brown tiles with an industrial (stainless steel?) deep-soaking tub—it's a bit out of place, matching little else in any other area in the home, but to each their own.

It's also a bit more staid than some of the other apartments within the former NYPD headquarters on Centre Street—the clocktower penthouse, for example, or the super-modern Charles Gwathmey-designed duplex—but perhaps that was part of its appeal.
