Can you guess the street where these buildings were once located?
Welcome back to Cornerspotter, Curbed's game in which you try to identify the location of a particular building or streetscape in a historic photograph from the Museum of the City of New York. Impress us and your fellow Curbed readers with your uncanny insight into New York City and its past!
Though you wouldn’t necessarily know it by looking at these humble, wood-frame homes, this Manhattan corner would eventually become home to an upscale residential building designed by a premier architecture firm. That building, at least, still stands (and is home to überwealthy residents) today. Here’s another hint: the land here changed hands at the beginning of the 20th century for $1 million, which is surely far less than it’d be valued for nowadays.
