A new Midtown skyscraper is one step closer to becoming a reality. Investors Isaac Chetrit and Ray Yadidi have completed an assemblage of property and air rights spanning Sixth Avenue from West 36th Street to West 37th Street, The Real Deal reports. The pair already had the 21-story office building at 989-991 Sixth Avenue and the site of a fomer one-story retail building at 993 Sixth Avenue. Now, they've acquired 235,000 square feet of air rights from the landmarked (individual and interior) Haier Building at 1352-1362 Broadway/981-987 Sixth Avenue.
All of that means the property can give way to an as-of-right, 80-story, mixed-use building. If it moves forward, it would be a mix of retail, hotel, and residential space. Chetrit and Yadidi have already put together $280 million for the project. TRD says demolition at the site probably won't move forward for three years, meaning another sky-grazing Midtown tower is even further off.
