New York City rent comparison: What $1,600 gets you

See what $1,600/month gets you in neighborhoods like Washington Heights, Bed-Stuy, and more

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a weekly column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various NYC neighborhoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Today, we're looking at apartments renting around $1,600.

↑ Decked out with modern updates, this Washington heights studio is offering the first month's rent free, bringing the "net effective rent" down to $1604 a month. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances and the bathroom sports trendy black and white tiling.

↑ In Midwood, $1,595 will rent you this one-bedroom with hardwood floors, a renovated kitchen with stainless steel appliances, three closets, and plenty of windows that optimize what natural light there is to be captured.

↑ A renovated pre-war studio in Inwood is going for $1,642 a month. The sunny apartment features a large common area with built-in bookshelves, a revamped bathroom, and a foyer that can function as a small office or dining space.

↑ This no-frills studio in Astoria is going for an even $1,600 a month. The space doesn’t boast any fancy amenities but does include a revamped kitchen and decent closet space. It’s also about a block away from Broadway and the subway.

↑ In Bed-Stuy, a one-bedroom apartment on Bainbridge Street comes with exposed brick, lots of sunlight, and access to the building’s private backyard. It’s asking $1,575 a month.

↑ There are two things to know about this apartment: it’s spacious and it’s way up in the Bronx. But if you’re okay with a potentially long commute, this 750-square-foot two-bedroom offers a bright, sunny space with large rooms and a sizable kitchen. Rent will run you $1,600/month.
