W train's impending return teased in new NYC subway posters

MTA flyers promise that the train will being service on November 7th

The W train—also known as the forgotten relative of the N/R line—is officially making its triumphant return next month. Previous reports said the line would be back in November, but any seasoned New Yorker knows it’s always a guessing game with ETAs and the MTA. But flyers recently posted by the MTA (spotted outside of subway stations and in R trains) offers confirmation: changes will go into effect at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7th.

The return of the W has to do with the opening of the Second Avenue Subway, whose December opening is still something of a question mark. Once the Q gets rerouted along the Second Avenue Subway line, the W is slated to replace it.

The flyer nails down all the service changes going down, reports PIX 11. W trains will make all local stops from Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard to Whitehall Street, via the Broadway Line. (It’s replacing the Q line stops in Queens.) There will be no service on weekends or late nights. For now, the Q line will temporarily terminate at the 57th Street-7 Avenue stop until the Second Avenue subway is completed.

After the Second Avenue Subway project is ready, Q trains will go from 96 Street in Manhattan to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue in Brooklyn, stopping at 86 Street, 72 Street, Lexington Avenue/63 Street, 57 Street/7 Avenue and all express stops on the Broadway Line in Manhattan. During late nights, Q trains will run local between Brooklyn and Manhattan via the Manhattan Bridge. Service in Brooklyn remains the same.

As for the N, trains will run express into Manhattan from 34th St-Herald Square to Canal Street. Service in Brooklyn and Queens will be the same. R service will be unchanged.

This might be a good sign that the Second Avenue Subway may actually open before the end of the year. At the very least, we’ve seen some sure signs of progress recently.
