A four-bedroom pad in one of Manhattan's most exclusive buildings once belonged to a Broadway legend
The Beresford on Central Park West is known for being one of Manhattan’s most exclusive apartment buildings, so it’s no surprise that show business types—Jerry Seinfeld, Glenn Close, Helen Gurley Brown, and plenty more—have called it home at one point or another. About two years ago, an apartment owned by a Broadway legend, Mary Rodgers (daughter of Richard, and composer of the musical Once Upon a Mattress), hit the market for $14 million; but according to city records that were just made public, the final sale price for the four-bedroom pad was $12 million.
According to a 2014 piece in the New York Times, the apartment used to be the staging area for those mythical New York City parties where a bevy of boldface names show up and hang out together like it ain’t no thing:
Their apartment often resonated with song and sound from the Steinway grand piano tucked into the front corner of the living room; the guests and impromptu performers included Stephen Sondheim, Harold Prince, Julie Andrews, Itzhak Perlman, Bernadette Peters, Diana Ross and Lang Lang.
The apartment has a gorgeous layout—there’s a terrace with Central Park Views, a huge master bedroom, eat-in kitchen, and more—and, for the new owners, the promise of exclusivity. (Though probably not as interesting of parties.…)
