New Yorkers, rejoice! City beaches and pools will remain open past Labor Day

For the second straight year, public pools and beaches will stay open for an extra week

If you’ve found yourself feeling the end-of-summer blues, perhaps the NYC Parks Department’s plans to keep public beaches and pools open past Labor Day will provide some solace. As was the case last year, the department will extend operation a week past summer’s unofficial end, reports Gothamist.

While smaller pools will close on September 5th, all 36 of the city’s intermediate and Olympic-sized pools will remain open until Sunday, September 11th with city-run beaches following suit, with the exception of Cedar Grove and Wolfe’s Pond in Staten Island. Outdoor pools will remain open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a break from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. to allow for pool cleaning.

Enjoy the extra week while you can because as much as we’d hate to admit it, the days of summer are numbered and winding down quickly.
