BD Hotels shifts gears, files for Hell's Kitchen apartment tower

The firm behind trendy Manhattan hotels will build a 350-apartment mixed use tower for their newest project

For his latest project, hotelier Richard Born of BD Hotels has decided to do things differently. The firm, which is responsible for stylish Manhattan quarters like Hotel Élysée, the Mercer, and the Stanhope hotels, has filed plans with the Department of Buildings for a 39-story mixed-use building in Hell’s Kitchen at 515 West 42nd Street. The Real Deal reports that the building will house 350 apartments.

A seven-story hotel named the Travel Inn currently occupies that parcel of land, but the site has been owned by Born’s family for more than three decades. According to the plans, the building will have about 4,300 square feet of retail space on its ground floor, around 277,000 square feet of residential space, and at least 10 apartments with private terraces. Among the building amenities are a fitness room, game room, common terrace, sky lounge, and outdoor garden.

At this point, it is unknown whether the apartments will be rentals or condominiums.
