New York City Rent Comparison: What $1,400 Gets Right Now

See what $1,400/month rents in NYC neighborhoods like Harlem and Ditmas Park

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various NYC neighborhoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Today we're looking at units around NYC renting for around $1,400/month.

↑ A 550-square-foot studio in Woodside with a separate eat-in-kitchen is looking for $1,390/month. It’s nothing to write home about, but the apartment is convenient in that it's close to the 7 train and LIRR. No dogs allowed here—this is a cats-only apartment.

↑ This West Harlem studio sacrifices space for finishes. The living area is tiny, and the single bedroom doesn’t look too large either, but the kitchen and bathroom have been recently updated which is a major plus. The apartment is asking $1,400/month.

↑ In the Bedford Park neighborhood of the Bronx, $1,395 rents a relatively spacious one-bedroom with an updated kitchen. The apartment is in a charming prewar building, and has one major perk: each room, including the bathroom and kitchen, has at least one window.

↑ A 450-square-foot studio for rent in Ditmas Park sports myriad period details like parquet wood floors and Art Deco-style arches that tie in to the building’s very Art Deco lobby. Despite lacking a bedroom, the apartment has an eat-in-kitchen and several closets. It’s asking $1,400/month.

↑ A nicely-finished apartment in Inwood that claims to be a one-bedroom is asking $1,425/month. The apartment has at least one exposed brick wall, recessed lighting, and a new kitchen and bathroom.

↑ In Northeast Flatbush, a spacious 700-square-foot one-bedroom with character-filled arches and parquet wood floors is up for grabs. The apartment has an updated kitchen and windowed shower. It’s looking for $1,450/month.
