Astor Place Cube’s Triumphant Return Delayed Until August

And so the wait continues...

A few days ago, we excitedly reported that the Alamo, better know as the Astor Place Cube, would be returning to its rightful resting space following a year-long stint in a New Jersey conservation facility while its East Village home, Cooper Square, underwent renovation. Well, it seems we got our hopes up for nothing. The cube was supposed to make its triumphant return today but it is now being reported by Bedford + Bowery that it won’t actually return until August.

The Department of Design and Construction is pinning the delay on the need for "final inspection by the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation," which must be done by one of their conservators. So until then, we’ll just have to patiently wait.

Way to go DDC, you got us good.
