What’s your worst New York City broker horror story?

Sound off in the comments!

Welcome to Friday Open Threads, wherein we'll pass the mic to readers to speak up about topics of interest, distress, horror, etc. Have something you want discussed? Let us know.

There are many crappy things about apartment-hunting in New York City, but perhaps the most crappy part of it is the dreaded broker’s fee, wherein you fork over a ridiculous amount of money for the privilege of having someone show you an apartment. Sometimes working with a broker can be a positive experience, but it can also be a huge pain in the you-know-what. Maybe you just never find the right place after working with someone for a while; or maybe the broker outright lies to you about an apartment’s terrible roach problem, leaving you to clean up the (literal) mess later on. (Yes, we’re speaking from experience with that last one.)

And since there are few things New Yorkers love more than complaining about their crappy real estate experiences, we’re opening up the comments: we want to hear about your worst experiences with brokers, from the merely shady to the positively terrible. Sound off below, but remember to keep it civil (no name-calling, please).
