Watch him talk about 432 Park Avenue and 125 Greenwich Street
Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly recently sat down with Architectural Digest to discuss several of his major ongoing projects across the world. He established his namesake firm in the 1980s, and now has offices in New York, London, and Buenos Aires among other cities. And of course, during his interview with AD, two of his biggest New York projects also came up — 432 Park Avenue, and 125 Greenwich Street.
While drawing a sketch of the planned supertall in the Financial District for his interviewer, Viñoly had this to say about the 898-foot tower at 125 Greenwich Street.
"It is a very efficient structure for such a slender building so tall," he says, in the video. "The form responds to a number of conditions making the building less impacted by the forces of wind and so on. It has a dignity and simplicity that is quite striking in my mind."
On the tallest residential building in the world, 432 Park Avenue, which has received its fair share of criticism, Viñoly had this to say.
"This town invented high rise luxury housing and we thought this building could take the problem a quantum leap forward and you could have a life experience from your home which is really unique, and I think this building does do that."
