Hillary Clinton’s already planning her victory fireworks

Those fireworks aren’t gonna plan themselves

Undeterred by the fact that the election hasn’t actually happened yet, the Clinton campaign is already planning a “triumphal” fireworks celebration over the Hudson River, where she and running mate Tim Kaine will bask in the pyrotechnic glory of American democracy [h/t Gothamist]. At least, that’s the plan. As the New York Post gleefully points out, “this could blow up in her face!” (Get it?)

According to the Post, “law enforcement officials and the FDNY have been told to prepare for a barge-launched pyrotechnic display off Manhattan’s Javits Center,” where Clinton and Kaine will be awaiting their victory under a literal glass ceiling. The fireworks will last for two minutes, and could start as early as 9:30 p.m., which, for those keeping track, is just half an hour after the polls close in New York.

Of course, all these plans were made before the FBI announced it was investigating top Clinton aide Huma Abedin’s emails and Donald Trump started “surging” in the polls. “It’s a little presumptuous of her to plan on winning,” one NYPD detective told the paper. “I guess she put in for this before Friday.”

An anonymous retired firefighter and apparent non-Clinton fan had stronger words. According to him, the FDNY’s “rank and file is outraged that they are being forced to do political work,” suggesting that the plans would “make it seem like the firefighters endorsed Hillary.”

Clinton won’t be the only candidate awaiting results in New York. Trump, too, will be spending election night in Manhattan, presumably somewhere that has his name on it.
