West 11th Street May Become the Village's Megamansion Row

An unnamed buyer has shelled $31 million on this West Village property

Is West 11th Street in the West Village becoming the go to place for New York City megamansions? Two recent purchases may point towards that trend. Following Sarah Jessica Parker's purchase of two adjoining townhouses for $34.5 million, news has now emerged that an unnamed buyer has done the same a few blocks east purchasing 138-140 West 11th Street for $31 million, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The two adjoining properties were purchased by Enrique Alonso and his wife Katherine Pozycki-Alonso, who work at SJP Properties (no connection to Sarah Jessica Parker), in September 2014 for $19.1 million. At the time that the couple purchased the structure, it had already been converted from two townhouses into a single, multi-family building with 11 apartments. The couple wanted to separate the two structures and remodel them.

But with offers pouring in to use the structure as a single family home, the couple decided to move on and sell the place. The building still had two rent stabilized tenants in place when the Alonsos purchased the property, but they've since left. The listing agent for this current sale told WSJ that that likely led a higher sales price since it allows the new buyers more freedom with the property.
