New York City rent comparison: What $1,850 gets you

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a weekly column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various NYC neighborhoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Today, we're looking at apartments renting around $1,850.

↑ This Fort Greene studio would have fit in perfectly during Micro Week: it measures a mere 250 square feet, but has a decent kitchen, a bathroom with an actual bathtub, and a lovely fireplace. Yes, it’s tiny, but it’s also in a pretty great neighborhood, so there’s surely someone out there who’ll rent it.

↑ A one-bedroom in the Bronx, meanwhile, has way more space—it measures 860 square feet—along with an actual bedroom, multiple closets, and a brand new kitchen. The rent is $1,850, and it’s only a short walk to the Pelham Parkway 5 stop.

↑ In Crown Heights, this one-bedroom is asking a bit less than the rest (only $1,799 per month), and it has a new, if extremely small, kitchen, hardwood floors, and a bedroom big enough to fit what appears to be a queen bed. Pets are okay in this one, too.

↑ This Upper West Side studio is a bit unusual: It has a loft that’s accessed by a fairly traditional staircase, rather than the rickety old ladder you would expect. There’s also a decent amount of built-in storage, along with a renovated kitchen, for $1,850.

↑ Meanwhile, across town on East 74th Street, there’s a gut renovated apartment (though it’s a bit hard to tell under the current tenant’s clutter) with stainless-steel kitchen appliances and what appears to be a decent amount of closet space. The price: $1,775 per month.

↑ And finally, in Sunnyside, a rent-stabilized (!) studio with a renovated kitchen and pretty okay bathroom is asking $1,850 per month. The apartment itself measures a not-too-shabby 475 square feet. The building has a laundry room, and pets are allowed.
