Beth Israel Hospital's forthcoming East Village facility gets sleek rendering

The smaller new facility could open as soon as 2020

As Mount Sinai prepares to begin phase one of its $500 million transformation to rebuild its downtown facility, new renderings obtained by NY1 give some insight into what the new Mount Sinai Beth Israel building on 14th Street and First Avenue in the East Village will look like.

The sleek new building is being helmed by architectural firm Perkins Eastman and will be renamed Mount Sinai Downtown Beth Israel. The Mount Sinai Cancer Center West and the Phillips Ambulatory Care Center are also slated for upgrades as part of the transformation and have been renamed to Mount Sinai Cancer Center West and Mount Sinai Downtown Union Square, respectively.

Depending on how soon demolition plans are approved, construction could begin in early 2018. If so, the new Mount Sinai Beth Israel could be completed by late 2020. The hospital says that it will remain open during the transformation process and will not close the emergency room until the new location is fully complete.
